More on Lovebug’s First Day of School

Lovebug’s first day of school, I was a total spaz. I had no idea how long it was going to take to get him breakfast, dress him, pack the diaper bag and go the 20 miles (against traffic - thank God) to nursery school.
By the time we were strapped in the car and ready to go, it was 7:32 and school starts at 8:00.
Already emotional, I realized I forgot the camera. I raced back into the house to get it and off we went - 7:40.
Of course we were late - shame on me.
When I went to take a picture, I saw the camera was “on” - which means… dead battery - shame on me.
The little cherub to Lovebug’s right is his cousin Madelyn. Her mom brought a camera with a fully charged battery. That plus her 1.5 week old newborn. It’s her third kid - she’s a pro.
Notice Madelyn’s combed hair. So was her mother’s, oh and her new baby brother’s too.
Notice Lovebug’s bedhead - shame on me.
It took me 5 school days, but we have it down to a science. Lovebug’s hair is even combed - mine too.
Back to the second picture of the first day of school. Notice what’s in Madelyn’s hand…. shame on the school?

Biodegradable Disposable Diapers!

I went to Target yesterday to hunt down some non plastic dishes for Lovebug. After loading my cart with a new wood cutting board, pyrex glass storage containers for leftovers, and some stainless steel snack bowls, I headed over to the baby section for diapers, wipes and baby wash.
Target must have some smart cookie up top because 5 minutes after the news broke about the dangers in J&J Head To Toe and other baby wash products, their shelves were lined with Burt’s Bees and other organic baby products. But I digress….
Just as I was turning the corner to the diaper isle, I bumped into a huge display of Nature Baby Care’s diapers, wipes, baby wash, diaper cream, lotion and shampoo. I stopped because their packaging was different than any of the usual packaging. The colors were different. Then I saw 100% Biodegradable!
Nature Baby Care claims their disposable diapers are biodegradable as well as their wipes and entire line of products - even the packaging.
I bought a box of #5 diapers - Lovebug’s size. Their prices and sizing are the same as the big brands - I say the same because this company is in Sweden and started by Marlene Sandberg, a Swedish lawyer and mother of two boys.
So far I’ve used about half a dozen, and they’re great.
About a year ago I tried the flushable diapers and after being in denial for the two week run I flushed them for good. Sorry Mother Earth.
But now I can ease my guilt because Nature Baby Care’s Nappys are fantastic!

Lovebug Starts Nursery School

Nursery School was something I considered for Lovebug well into his third year, and unlike some prepared moms, I did not start hunting one down while he was in my womb.

My oldest sister, Trudy opened a Discovery Center 20 miles east of where we live. In the back of my mind I thought, “maybe… but that is a schlep”. None the less I enrolled Lovebug this last Spring and told my sister I’d have him start in September.

As August loomed around I started having anxiety about it. He is so young after all and was born 3 months early, and I just didn’t think he was ready.

By the time mid August hit, Lovebug started speaking in complete sentenses - he literally woke up one morning doing it. “Mama, LET’S GOOOO… I play with kids”. Hmmm, maybe he is ready after all.

I had begun talking daily about school to him right after I enrolled him. He’s only going 4 hours a day - 3 days a week. His first day was Wednesday.

As we pulled up into the parking lot, I told him this was his school, and of course he wanted to be carried in - yikes. Miss Irene greeted him like a celebrity and Lovebug ate it up. I gave him a squeeze and told him I’d be back at Noon to pick him up.

Next to the signout sheet was his artwork for me to take home. Definitely my I’m a parent moment.
